The Real Story Behind Akshay Kumar’s Rustom

Rustom, one of Akshay Kumar’s most awaited movies is all set to go on floors on August 12, 2016. Kumar known as the ‘dependable man’ in Bollywood has successfully delivered the biggest blockbusters earlier this year including Airlift and Housefull 3.

His latest movie, Rustom has already created waves in the Bollywood industry by breaking all records and getting 3 million trailer views on the internet along with 100 million views on Zee network, where it was simultaneously shown across all channels. This was the first time when any movie reached the 100 million mark that too in one day.

Kumar will be seen playing the role of a Parsi naval officer, Rustom Pavri for the very first time in the movie. Ileana D’Cruz will be essaying the role of Rustom’s wife and a foreigner Cynthia Pavri. The movie also stars Esha Gupta who is going to play an important negative role in the film showcasing her grey shades, her role and looks from the film are said to be inspired by Priyanka Chopra’s role in Aitraaz.

Inspired by the case of naval officer K.M Nanavati versus the State of Maharashtra, Rustom will take you through the controversial judgement of 1959, where Commander Nanavati was tried for the murder of his wife’s lover, Prem Ahuja.

Nanavati, a Parsi naval officer was frequently away on assignments for long periods of time, leaving back his English born wife Sylvia along with their two sons and daughter at home in Mumbai. It was this when Sylvia and Ahuja, Nanavati’s friend fell in love with each other.

As Sylvia felt that she would divorce her husband and marry Ahuja, things went awry when her lover showed disinterest. After being spited in love, Sylvia then decided to open up to her husband about the affair. Nanavati on listening to this, got enraged and landed himself at Ahuja’s house, asking him  of the affair. When his friend replied in the negative, Nanavati shot him dead and turned himself into the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The trial began and garnered humongous public support along with media publicity. The crux of the case was that whether the murder was a premeditated one or something that happened in “the heat of the moment.”
