Everyone has been going crazy ever since this movie was announced, especially ever since Jared Leto’s Joker was revealed. We’ve since developed major superhero crushes on Harley Quinn and have been absolutely scared of Killer Croc, but then again, how well do we really know the squad?

While some names from DC’s most famous task force of expendable supervillains have appeared on the big screen {thanks to the Batman movies} and television {think Arrow, The Flash and more} before, there are a few that might appear to be new for those who have never read a single comic or seen the various animated series {we don’t blame you}.

Origins Of The Squad

The squad first debuted in The Brave and the Bold issue #25 in 1959, and only had Rick Flag from the current squad that we will see in DCEU adaptation. Also known as Task Force X, the squad saw others such as Deadshot, Captain Boomerang and Enchantress join later {during the Legends storyline under Amanda Waller}. This is the squad’s third live action appearance after minor appearances in Smallville and Arrow.

The Batman Connection

You might have already spotted the Bat in the trailer, and must have immediately started forming your own theories {we fanboys do that, a lot}. Well, to put most of those theories to rest, Batman has been involved in many Suicide Squad storylines before, and is also the reason for most of these villains being behind bars {classic Batman}.

Never Seen This Joker Before

Probably the first reaction that everyone had when they saw Jared Leto’s first look as the Joker was, “what is that thing?” We know it doesn’t look anything like Heath Ledger’s, or even Jack Nicholson’s Joker, but this one isn’t completely off the comics, either.

Leto’s Joker draws inspiration from various storylines, and some elements have been added by director David Ayer to make him look more menacing and new-age. This Joker drives a customised Infiniti G35 Vaydor, and probably has Purple Lamborghini playing on full blast.

Not really the kind that you’d update on Instagram and tweet about, but Jared Leto got so immersed in his role as the Joker that he sent his fellow cast members some pretty nasty presents. While Margot Robbie got a rat and Will Smith got some bullets, Leto sent other things like a soiled Playboy magazine, a dead hog, sex toys and used condoms to the rest of the crew. Cast members used to be really scared throughout the making of the movie, and reports even suggested that an on-set therapist was hired to keep the cast grounded {you wouldn’t want a real Suicide Squad on your hands}.

Meet The DCEU Squad

Now that you know these folks enough, let us introduce you to the cast. The movie stars Will Smith {Deadshot}, Jared Leto {Joker}, Margot Robbie {Harley Quinn}, Cara Delevingne {Enchantress}, Joel Kinnaman {Rick Flag Jr.}, Viola Davis {Amanda Waller}, Jai Courtney {Captain Boomerang}, Jay Hernandez {Diablo}, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje {Killer Croc} and Karen Fukuhara {Katana}. While all others have been squad members for long, this on-screen appearance would be the first for Killer Croc and Katana as the newest members of the squad.

Interesting right? We’re stoked about the movie, and if you are too, there is much more in store for you. Go watch this with bae or just take your own squad along. That’s all folks!
