The greatest art in the world is the art of story-telling.
Narrating tales in the most unique way is director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s forte. After much-acclaimed movies like Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the director’s next big release is Mirzya.
Here’s everything you wanted to know about the movie.
An Audio-Visual Spectacle
Mirzya is an attempt to re-tell the folk tale of Mirza-Sahiban. A tale of undying love, the story is immensely popular in the region of Punjab and Baluchistan. Rakeysh was particularly fascinated by the question of why Sahiban breaks the arrows and betrays Mirza.
This became a starting point to the creation of the movie. Mehra incorporated a stunning set of songs along with an amazing screenplay to give the flavour of an audio-visual spectacle.
To add to awe factor, the movie has been written by none other than the man of magical words, Gulzar.
The On Screen Mirza Sahiban
The movie witnesses the debut of two young and vibrant actors- Saiyami Kher and Harshvardhan Kapoor. Kher, who went under a rigorous auditioning process for over six months was inspired by Rang De Basanti and saw a scope of performance in this movie.
On the other hand, Kapoor has worked for three long years for the movie and is anxious to share the movie with the audience. Mirzya has physically been a tough film for the actor as he got injured multiple times while shooting.
A Folk Tale With A Twist
The movie runs two parallel love stories simultaneously. Though the romantic themes and the love story is inspired by the folk tale, a similar love story is being played out in the contemporary times.
Mirzya juxtaposes this with the original and the outcome is a beautiful re-creation which must be watched on the big screen. Most importantly, the movie gives out the the theme of undying love and how love echoes through different eras.
