2016: The Year That Hollywood Grew In India

Which was the second highest grosser in India this year? It wasn’t a film about a Kapoor or a Khan and their many traversities. Instead, this was a film about a ‘man-cub’ raised by wolves and panthers, battle against a vicious enemy.

Disney’s The Jungle Book managed to rake in a cool Rs. 189 crores at the Indian box office. While some may call its success a result of nostalgia, others attribute the rise in the share of Hollywood movies to the multiplex revolution.

Nevertheless, 2016 is being termed as the year Hollywood broke through all imaginable barriers in India; its share of the Indian box office collections is estimated at 20 per cent of the total with the segment itself grew at around 17 per cent over 2015.
