Ever wondered what happens when a boy who’s looking for a typical bride falls in love with an independent woman? An absolute pleasure to watch, Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya revolves around the same theme and somewhere between its lively dance numbers and passionate tone, it ends up touching emotional chords by saying something we all need to hear.

This Holi break in my hometown reminded me of the year 2000. It was a 10 PM show of ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ in a small city and the last time I’d seen a movie hall so full, it was year 2000 when Kaho Na Pyaar Hai was being projected on the loop in every single-screen cinema hall in the city.
Unlike that year, the booking experience was effortless via Paytm. Ten minutes into Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and my mum was starstruck with the innocent charm of Badrinath Bansal from Jhansi (Varun Dhawan) who danced like nobody from the new generation of actors. By the mid of the first song in the movie, the public couldn’t stop cheering.

The hero of the movie is Badrinath Bansal. He’s simple, romantic, 10th standard pass, and heads over heels in love with Vaidehi who is a fierce woman. She is ambitious and not ready to give up on her dreams by succumbing to the pressures of the society. She knows what she wants and gets it.

Together, they create magic. They weave a beautiful story where you start relating with both the characters. The dance numbers, their typical family and their innocence will leave you wanting for more but do they end up together? And if they do, how does it all happen?

If you’re a hopeless romantic, this movie is for you but it’s not just any ordinary romantic movie. It says a lot without being sanctimonious. It’s subtle, comforting and will leave you smiling throughout because it takes you along in a dreamy but a very real land.
