The first song Ghoomar from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much awaited period-drama film Padmavati is out and it is has magnificence sprinkled all over it. Deepika Padukone looks the epitome of royalty in this mesmerizing song composed by Bhansali and crooned by the immensely talented Shreya Ghoshal and Swaroop Khan.
We are totally smitten by this new song that has Deepika performing Rajasthani folk dance. The song is Bhansali’s tribute to the land of cultures and traditions – Rajasthan. The slightly over three minutes song features leading lady Padukone in a royal Rajasthani attire. It is being said that she has done 66 twirls in the entire song despite a loaded attire and jewellery. The song also features Shahid Kapoor who tenderly watches his queen dance.
Ghoomar dance is performed by Rajput women on auspicious occasions. The word ‘ghoomar’ is derived from the Hindi word ‘ghoomna’ which means twirling. M Turaz has penned down the lyrics and Rajasthani lyrics are by Swaroop Khan. Deepika’s dance is like poetry in motion throughout the song. We have to mention the moment when Deepika dances with diyas in her hands and looks every bit of magical.
Sanjay Leela Bhasali is known for making music par excellence. Being his film, Padmavati is expected to have some spectacular music. Bhansali is known to add local folk in most of his movies. The Nagada song in Ram Leela was rich in the flavors of the soil of Gujarat. While it was high on energy, the Ghoomar song is delicate and enchanting.
One of the biggest films of this year, Padmavati is presented by Bhansali Productions and features Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The movie is set to release on 1 December.
