Last night, India seized victory against New Zealand by 53 runs in the first T20 International of the three-match series. Usually, a stronger team in short-form cricket, New Zealand failed to outperform the men in blue this time.
The game was opened by Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma who gave us a terrific 158 runs together. They jointly hold an Indian record for the highest individual innings vs New Zealand in T20Is. Later in the match, Chahal and Axar performed to restrict the Kiwis to 149/8. India and New Zealand have played six matches in T20Is, and this was India’s first victory against the Kiwis. This also means that India has officially won against every full-member team in the T20Is.

Another big moment of the match came with Ashish Nehra’s farewell. It was a very emotional night for him because he played his last final international game for India. A left-arm fast bowler, Ashish Nehra had an International career of over 18 years.

“Many people asked me if you would have liked to play more Test cricket. But I think I am very fortunate to be standing here, retiring after 18 years, retiring in blue clothes in your home ground, I have no regrets. The crowd has been a great support. I am always happy whether I am retired or not”, said Nehra at the post-match presentation with Sanjay Manjrekar.
