Dibakar Banerjee’s hit Love Sex Aur Dhokha was a bold and experimental movie which marked Rao’s debut. Kudos to him for not choosing a typical masala Bollywood movie to step into showbiz. The movie explores three loosely-linked tales of love, sex and betrayal told through cameras. Rajkummar Rao played the role of a greedy man named Adarsh who uses sex to clear off his debts. He amazed us with his powerful performance and we knew a revolution is about to happen in the film industry.

Shahid (2012)

The movie that brought Rao into limelight was master director Hansal Mehta’s Shahid. It was based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi who was charged with flimsy allegations of plotting against the state. Azmi was assassinated in 2010 in Mumbai. The movie narrated the story of humanity under siege. Rajkumar Rao’s performance was applauded in theaters as well as international film festivals. Fearless Rao’s spectacular performance in the movie also fetched him the National Award for Best Actor.

Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel The 3 Mistakes Of My Life, Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che is another beautiful film that brought out the best in Rajkummar Rao. Rao played a nerd who dreams of expanding his business of sports into a big one. The movie became a blockbuster with a positive word-of-mouth. Working alongside Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh, Rao stood out in terms of performance proving that he is one of the finest actors in Bollywood.

Playing the role of a Delhi based reporter in Aligarh, Rao delivered a landmark performance. He played the role of Deepu who stumbles upon the story of a Marathi professor in a local Aligarh paper. The movie marked a phenomenal collaboration of Manoj Bajpayee with Rajkummar Rao making it a treat to watch on screen. Trapped is a film of its kind. Rajkummar Rao played the character of  a helpless boy Shaurya who gets stuck in an empty apartment sans food, water and electricity.
