Padman, starring superstar Akshay Kumar is based on the real life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who became a popular figure for inventing low-cost sanitary making machines. The movie also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. This big Republic Day release of 2018 is helmed by R. Balki. With Khiladi Kumar’s soaring success rate at the box office, the movie is expected to turn out a blockbuster.

While everybody knows about the movie, not many are aware about the inspiring story of the real life superhero , Arunachalam Muruganantham. A college drop-out from Coimbatore, Muruganantham learnt the hardship faced by women during the menstrual cycle from his wife Shanthi. He was stunned to know that most of the rural women used things such as old rags, sand, leaves and even ash while they were on periods.

Muruganantham’s aim was to ensure that women get access to cheap sanitary napkins, especially in rural areas. He started experimenting to make such napkins with the help of his wife. It took him more than two months to discover what sanitary pads are made of. Almost many years of research and trials, he created a low-cost machine for the production of sanitary pads. He was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2014 for coming up with this incredible machine.

Twinke Khanna’s Association With Padman

The revolutionary story of Arunachalam made its way to Twinkle Khanna’s second book The Legend Of Laxmi Prasad. She decided to produce a movie based on the same subject under her banner Mrs. Funnybones Movies. This is the first time she is on board as a film producer.

Both the real life as well as the reel life Padman bond really well. Arunachalam was a regular visitor on the sets of the movie. He recently took to twitter to thank Akshay about the film.
