The Best Bollywood Movies Of 2017 That Kept Us Entertained

2017 is about to end and we have witnessed a spectacular year for movies. Like always, this time too, Bollywood kept us entertained and thrilled throughout the year. We saw filmmakers taking up new subjects and experimenting with movies. They came up with innovative concepts that were not seen before in Hindi films. Some of them stood their ground against heavily marketed projects and some of them vanished without a trace. There was an assortment of movies that came out, be it comedy, drama, thriller, action or romance. Let’s take a look at the movies that made a special place in the hearts of audience this year.

The Baadshah of Bollywood came in an all new avatar in Raees. Packed with some of the most powerful dialogues of the year, Rahul Dholakia’s Raees was a blockbuster. It pulled Shah Rukh Khan out of his arms-spreading romantic avatar and presented him as the bootlegger Raees Alam. The movie also featured the supremely talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui who stood out in this crime drama. Pakistani star, Mahira Khan made her big Bollywood debut with this one.

Kaabil was yet another collaboration between the father-son duo of Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan. The revenge drama featured a love affair between two visually impaired people whose life is shattered after some tragic events. Directed by Sanjay Gupta, Kaabil was appreciated by critics as well as the audience for Hrithik’s stellar performance.

Jolly L.L.B 2

Khiladi Kumar Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 was entirely driven by its splendid content. The social satire chronicled the life of Jagdishwar Mishra, a Lucknow based lawyer, who fights a case against a much powerful and ruthless Pramod Mathur played by Annu Kapoor. Kumar’s brilliant acting coupled with bang on dialogues wooed audience and critics like never before. Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, the film was the sequel to the 2013 film Jolly LLB.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer Badrinath Ki Dulhania’s was loved for the adorable chemistry between the leading pair. Sequel to the 2014 hit Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania is the story of Badrinath, who is looking for a typical bride. His life changes when he meets Vaidehi, an independent, chirpy girl. Full of light hearted moments, the movie delivered a solid social message that girls should follow their dreams and the institution of marriage should not confine their freedom and aspirations.

Hindi Medium

One of the most talked-about movies of the year, Hindi Medium starring Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar dealt with the very relevant subject of how language divides our society. The film was a satire on the faulty education system. The concept connected well with the audience resulting in a massive hit. The characters of the movie were loved by the audience.

Judwaa 2

Judwaa 2 was Varun Dhawan, Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer remake of the 1997 Salman Khan film Judwaa. The phenomenal comic timing of Varun, his chemistry with the two leading ladies supported by the entire cast resulted in a blockbuster. The movie was well received by the audience. The new versions of the iconic songs from the original “Tan Tana Tan” and “Oonchi Hai Building” were also retained in the remake that thrilled the audience.

Bareilly Ki Barfi

One of the best movies of 2017, Bareilly Ki Barfi was a light-hearted comedy. The film managed to leave a mark in the hearts of the audience as efficiently as it managed to rule the box office. This rom-com set in the North Indian town of Bareilly introduced real characters who are relatably infectious. With magnetic performances from the entire cast, Bareilly Ki Barfi became a memorable movie for many years to come. Meek Pritam Vidrohi played by Rajkummar Rao was one of our favorite characters this year.

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha featured superstar Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. It was a social satire based love story revolving around the problem of the absence of toilet in Keshav and Jaya’s house and how Keshav tries to pacify this with temporary arrangements. T he film smashed box office records and went up to become one of the most successful movies of Kumar’s career.

Ajay Devgn delivered a stellar period heist drama Baadshaho. Directed by Milan Luthria, the film also featured Ileana D’Cruz, Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta in the leading roles. The movie is based on the Emergency era of 1975-1977. Baadshaho had some spectacular dialogues and a special appearance by the gorgeous Sunny Leone.

Lipstick Under My Burkha

Surrounded by controversies for a very long time, Lipstick Under My Burkha is certainly one of the boldest movies made in Bollywood. Portraying the woman of today in an absolutely new light, the movie went on to become a hit. The highly appreciated movie portrayed the journey of four women claiming their secret desires through small acts of courage. This is definitely one movie that took Bollywood a step ahead.

India’s official entry for the prestigious Oscars for the year, Newton starred the stellar actor Rajkummar Rao in the lead role. The movie was a political satire as well as a social commentary on the importance of democracy. It showcased the journey of a government clerk who is posted to a Naxal-affected area of Chhattisgarh to ensure that elections are conducted in a free and fair manner. One of the best performances by Rajkummar Rao, Newton was a winner.

Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan

2017 was surely a special year for Ayushmann Khurrana with two big successes. Remake of the Tamil film Kalyana Samayal Saadham, Shubh Mangal Savdhan was another splendid movie released this year that dealt with the subject of erectile dysfunction. It was a well-crafted satirical comedy also starring Bhumi Pednekar. This brave attempt took story telling a notch higher.

Secret Superstar

Another movie that stole hearts this year was Secret Superstar. It was an endearing story of a school girl who wants to become a singer but her cruel father strongly disapproves of it. Directed by Advait Chauhan, the movie addresses issues of patriarchy and domestic violence with as much care and thought that sensitive subjects like these deserve. It is a beautiful movie that stars Dangal fame Zaira Wasim in the leading role. The movie was produced by perfectionist Aamir Khan who also played a special role in the movie.

Golmaal Again

Ajay Devgn’s fourth installment of the famous Golmaal franchise released this year amidst Diwali cheer and became a smashing hit. This time, director Rohit Shetty added the element of horror to his trademark comedy which was loved by the audience. Golmaal Again featured Tabu and Parineeti Chopra in addition to the crazy gang of Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu and Shreyas Talpade. Golmaal Again is a laugh riot that cracked us up with funny moments soaked in horror.

Tiger Zinda Hai

Tiger Zinda Hai is a sequel to the 2013 blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger. The movie released recently and as expected, it became the biggest Bollywood blockbuster of the year. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the movie is inspired by real life events. This time Tiger and Zoya are on a mission to rescue Indian nurses who have been held hostage in Iraq by a terrorist organization. Brimming with terrific chemistry between the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif and daredevil action sequences, Tiger Zinda Hai is breaking records at the box office.
