Ajay Devgan’s recent choice of films has been intense and hard-hitting. After the thrilling punch of Baadshaho, the actor is back with Raid, based on real-life events. Set in the 1980s, the story of Raid revolves around one of the most high-profile income tax raids in India. The official trailer for the film is out now.
The first poster of the film bears the tagline “Heroes don’t always come in uniform.” This suggests Ajay’s role to be that of an honest man who fights corruption, scams and bribery. The actor appears as Amay Patnaik, the Deputy Commisioner of Income Tax in Lucknow. He is paired opposite Ileana D’Cruz who plays the female lead. The two were last seen together in Baadshaho. The film also stars Saurabh Shukla, known for his work in Jolly LLB, Barfi and PK.
The Raid trailer shows Devgan as a fearless and dedicated IT officer. Neither does he seem to care about the power of influential people nor about the consequences of raiding their homes and workplaces. As the “longest raid” begins, the actor explains the rules to the residents of the house he is raiding. The scene then shifts to car chases and tense situations. We further get a sneak peek into the rush within the income tax office. Finally, there is an indication that the officer’s honesty may put his wife in danger.
Raid is a joint venture by T-series and Panorama Studios. The film is directed by Raj Kumar Gupta who gave us No One Killed Jessica, a gripping thriller based on Delhi’s Jessica Lall murder case. Considering the filmmaker’s proficiency with handling real events, we can expect Raid to be a true entertainer.
