The crime-thriller Vikram Vedha had turned out to be one of the highest grossing Tamil films last year. Starring R. Madhavan and “Makkal Selvan” Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles, the film is based on a collection of Indian folk legends called “Baital Pachisi.”
Set in a contemporary, more relevant backdrop, the plot is all about a gangster and a cop crossing paths. The film also topped the IMDB list of 10 Best Indian Films of 2017. And now, it is being remade in Hindi by none other than the highly acclaimed Neeraj Pandey.
The director duo of Pushkar & Gayatri who had worked on the original film, have been roped in for the remake too. The creative producer Pandey, on the other hand, would be writing the Hindi version. The filmmaker recently spoke about not bending the original plot too much. He plans to enhance the concept to suit the Hindi-speaking audience instead.
Neeraj Pandey is known for films receiving critical acclaim and prestigious accolades. We have seen some of his best works in the form of A Wednesday!, Special 26, Rustom and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story among others. His out-of-the-box treatment of a variety of subjects is one of the strongest reasons that make his films a must-watch.
Directors Pushkar & Gayatri are noted for their technical finesse and unique style since the year 2007. They too have covered a wide variety in the stories their films narrate. Their success with the treatment of the original film further strengthens the prospects for the remake.
Vikram Vedha is still in its “draft” stages and the lead actors are yet to be announced. However, we can certainly expect a gripping conflict between two unbending minds of a stubborn police officer and an equally headstrong criminal who resorts to mind games for challenging his nemesis.
The film is being co-produced by Reliance Entertainment and Y Not Studios.
