2018 seems to be a great time for movie lovers. The year started off with some of the most anticipated projects coming to life and we still have plenty of big names to look forward to. There is the magical sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the realistic biopic on Sanjay Dutt and movies that will introduce Bollywood mega stars into the Telugu film industry.
The month of April alone has so much to offer that it’s hard to keep calm. So, here’s a look at the most awaited movies releasing in April:
Blackमेल (6 April)
Known for his unconventional acting ability and solid screen presence, Irrfan Khan is back and how! After a stint of playing intense characters in movies like Yeh Saali Zindagi, D Day, Life of Pi, Life in a Metro, The Lunchbox, Maqbool, Haasil and Paan Singh Tomar, Irrfan is coming up with a black comedy- Blackमेल . The movie showcases the story of Dev, who catches his wife cheating on him and decides to blackmail her boyfriend. His life takes a u-turn when he himself starts getting blackmailed! Going by the trailer, Blackमेल is going to be a hilarious tale. We are going to watch this one for the quirky avatar of Irrfan!
You Were Never Really Here (6 April)
April begins on a soul-stirring note with a powerful journey of emotions in You Were Never Really Here. The film is based on a book of the same name by Jonathan Ames. It traces the journey of Joe, a traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, who tracks down missing girls for a living. The unfinished version of the film that was premiered at the 70th Cannes Film Festival, won the Best Screenplay & Best Actor Award. The movie looks brilliant and promises some incredible performances by Joaquin Phoenix and Ekaterina Samsonov.
Blockers (6 April)
Blockers is a teen comedy based on a very quirky plot. The story revolves around Julie, Kayla and Sam- three high school girls who make a pact to lose their virginity on prom night. The movie features a stellar ensemble including Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, and John Cena as their parents who can do anything to stop their kids from completing their pact. Watching the girls & their parents leaving no stone unturned to do and undo things in this slapstick comedy is going to be superfun!
Krishnarjuna Yudham (12 April)
After delivering back-to-back hits at the box office, Nani has became a rage in south Indian cinema. His upcoming movie, Krishnarjuna Yuddham is directed by Merlapaka Gandhi who made his debut with the hit movie Express Raja in 2016. Nani plays dual roles as Krishna and Arjun Jayprakash in the film. The film narrates two different stories which meet at a conflict point. The trailer got rave reviews dropping hints about the movie being an out and out entertainment package. The presence of Anupama Parameshwaran and Rukshar Dhillon make this project more exciting to look forward to.
Rampage (13 April)
The upcoming American sci-fi monster movie, Rampage is one of the most awaited movies of the year. Directed by Brad Peyton, the movie is loosely based on the video game series of the same name by Midway Games. The story revolves around Davis & his unshakable bond with George, an extraordinarily intelligent gorilla who grows to a monstrous size after an experiment goes wrong. Featuring names like Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Åkerman and Joe Manganiello, Rampage boasts of some power-packed stunts and action sequences. Backed by Warner Bros. Pictures, this one is surely going to give action movies a run for their money.
A Quiet Place (13 April)
This month has a lot in store for horror freaks too. Director John Krasinski is coming up with a spine-chilling story in A Quiet Place. The movie which stars Emily Blunt, traces the journey of a family which is forced to live in silence while hiding from deadly creatures. The movie features Blunt with husband John Krasinski. Interestingly, the real life couple play husband and wife in the movie. While there are too many spooky moments that the movie promises, watching this terrific real life couple on reel is surely going to be interesting.
October (13 April)
Giving us a break from the usual hero-heroine romance, ace director Shoojit Sircar is here with an offbeat story. Titled October, the movie is not a love story but, a story of love. Known for presenting distinctive stories & real characters, Sircar promises to give us the October feel in the month of April. October is the story of Dan and Shiuli, two hotel management trainees training in the same five-star hotel. The film narrates how a career-oriented Dan’s life turns upside down when his is the first name that Shiuli utters after meeting with a traumatic accident. This is the first time that Sircar, who has helmed Piku, Pink, Vicky Donor & Madras Cafe, is collaborating with Varun Dhawan. The music of this movie is already ruling the charts. Let’s wait to find out what Dan & Shiuli’s story has in store for us.
Bharath Ane Nenu (20 April)
Heartthrob Mahesh Babu’s forthcoming movie Bharat Ane Nenu is another big movie of April, 2018. After his brilliant spy-thriller Spyder, Mahesh Babu has undergone complete transformation to play an intense character in this one. This political drama directed by veteran director Koratala Siva also stars the ravishing Kiara Advani. Buzz is that Mahesh Babu will be seen essaying the role of a chief minister in this movie, that will have a powerful social message. Seeing him playing the CM for the first time is already making us super exciting. Adding to this is the spectacular actor-director duo of Mahesh Babu and Koratala Siva, who are keeping our expectations very high.
Nanu Ki Jaanu (20 April)
When Abhay Deol stars in a movie, we know it’s not going to be a typical Bollywood masala. Nanu Ki Jaanu is a dark comedy revolving around a Delhi based land mafia agent who tries to deal with a ghost in his apartment. The movie features the very talented Patralekha opposite Abhay in this horror comedy. The mint fresh pairing of Abhay & Patralekha is going to be a treat to watch.
Omerta (20 April)
After delivering splendid movies like Aligarh, CityLights and Shahid, the celebrated actor-director duo of Rajkummar Rao & Hansal Mehta have teamed up again for Omerta. The movie is a biographical crime drama based on the real life story of terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. It has been widely appreciated across several film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival. While the duo of Mehta & Rao is enough to pull us towards the cinemas, seeing Rajkummar playing the antagonist is going to be one-of-a-kind movie experience.
Beyond The Clouds (20 April)
Written and directed by celebrated Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, Beyond The Clouds narrates the story of a brother and sister struggling for redemption. Set in the slums of Mumbai, the movie is has already won accolades at international film festivals. Featuring Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother Ishaan Khattar along with Malavika Mohanan in the lead roles, Beyond The Clouds dwells on the adoration of love, life and nuanced human relationships. Majidi, who has touched on many themes of human emotions and has won numerous international awards is sure to surprise us yet again with his first Indian movie. This one definitely has the potential of being the story we’ve all been waiting for.
Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India (26 April)
Directed by debutant Vakkantham Vamsi, Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India’s features Allu Arjun in the lead role. A patriotic drama, the movie features Arjun playing the role of a military officer who is extremely short tempered. The movie also stars Annu Emmanuel and action king Arjun. Vamsi has previously written blockbuster movies like Kick (2007) and Temper (2013). We can expect another dramatic entertainer from Allu Arjun in the form of Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India’s.
Avengers: Infinity War (27 April)
April is going to be big with the third installment of Avengers. The screens will be on fire when Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers come together to battle their most powerful enemy yet- Thanos. We can’t contain our excitement to watch this one because this is going to be the first time that all the superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are coming together on one screen! The grandeur of Marvel’s biggest superheroes is going to a one-of-its-kind affair keeping everyone glued to the screen. Avengers: Infinity War is going to be the ultimate and deadliest showdown of all time.
Bazaar (27 April)
Set in the backdrop of money, power & business, Bazaar is another movie that is catching everyone’s attention. Featuring Saif Ali Khan, Rohan Mehra, Chitrangada Singh and Radhika Apte in the lead roles, Bazaar is said to be inspired by the 2013 movie The Wolf of Wall Street. Saif Ali Khan’s serious and perplexed avatar in the first look poster has already generated a lot of curiosity among the audience. Let’s wait for 27th April to find out more.
Kaala (27 April)
The biggest & most anticipated movie of 2018 is Kaala, featuring Thalaiva Rajnikanth. Rajinikanth, whose movies are known to open with earth shattering numbers at the box office will be seen in the title role of a powerful don living in the slums of Dharavi in Mumbai. The movie explores the lives of the Tamilian community living there. This is the second gangster film directed by Pa. Ranjith who had earlier received critical acclaim for his work with Rajnikanth. We know what happens when Rajini dons the gangster avatar if we’ve seen Billa, Nallavanuku Nallavan, Ranga and Kabali. We can’t wait for Kaala to release and repeat the success of Sivaji, Baasha, Ethiran & Kabali because no one but Thalaiva himself can break his own records.
