Director Abhishek Choubey’s Son Chiriya is based on the lives of the notorious dacoits of Chambal. The film’s star cast includes Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Ranveer Shorey and Manoj Bajpayee. The very first look of the film was out in January, featuring the male lead in a bearded, rugged avatar. And now, Bhumi Pednekar’s first look gives us another glimpse into the film’s setting.
Bhumi last appeared opposite Akshay Kumar in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. In Son Chiriya, she is sporting the convincing look of a rural, widowed dacoit. Her first look features her in the simplest clothing, holding a rifle. The softness of her printed, colorful sari stands as a stark contrast to her intimidating aura and the dangerous, black & brown weapon that she carries.
The background in the picture is rocky and grey, overcast by shadows. That helps highlight Bhumi’s look even better. Known for choosing her films wisely, the actress seems all set to deliver another unforgettable performance on screen. She has undergone dedicated physical training and adopted lifestyle changes in order to fit into the role. Furthermore, in order to make the character all the more real, Pednekar has been interacting with rural women in the area, picking up the essence of their native dialects.
Son Chiriya is the first film to bring Sushant and Bhumi together. Set in the 1970s, the film is shot in the ravines of Chambal. The film takes a break from the excessive bloodshed that is so mainstream in dacoit films. It is more focused on the lifestyle of the dacoits instead, highlighting previously unexplored aspects of this theme.
Abhishek Choubey has given us films like Udta Punjab, Dedh Ishqiya and Ishqiya in the past, all of which won critical acclaim and were infused with deep meanings. Son Chiriya too promises a new perspective into the theme that it has picked up. With a strong star cast known for their impactful performances, the upcoming movie will perhaps set new records.
