The month of May brings a delightful line-up of movies spread across a variety of genres. From a handful of comedies to superhero films, tragic romances and thrillers of different kinds, there is no dearth of entertainment options to choose from. While some movies will mark the debut of filmmakers, others will reveal new shades of highly celebrated actors. Let’s take a closer look.
102 Not Out (May 4)
May begins with the hilariously refreshing plot of 102 Not Out. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor together after a span of 27 years, the movie revolves around the most unusual bond between a 102-year old father and his 75-year old son. The light-hearted father is a source of joy to everyone around him. However, his grumpy son is the complete opposite. And though their are ridiculous clashes of opinion between the two, their love for each other is beyond measure.
Omertà (May 4)
After 2016’s biographical drama, the celebrated actor-director duo of Rajkummar Rao & Hansal Mehta have teamed up again for this biographical crime-drama. Omerta is based on the life of the highly dreaded British terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh. The film has already received appreciation across several film festivals.
Naa Peru Surya Naa lllu India (May 4)
Directed by debutante Vakkantham Vamsi, Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India is a patriotic drama. It features action king Allu Arjun in the lead role along side Anu Emmanuel. The actor is playing the role of a fierce military officer who is disturbed by his severe anger issues.
Cycle (May 4)
Cycle is a cheerful drama in the backdrop of a small Konkan village. The film is full of mad adventures that revolve around a simpleton named Keshav. Played by Hrishikesh Joshi, Keshav shares an unusual love affair with his bicycle. Things get crazy when the same cycle is accidentally stolen away by a pair of thieves.
Raazi (May 11)
An unusual treat from the house of Dharma Productions, Raazi is an espionage thriller starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role. The movie revolves around a married couple one of whom is a Kashmiri spy while the other, a Pakistani army officer.
Deadpool 2 (May 18)
Marvel fans have another reason to celebrate. The sequel to the hilarious Deadpool film is here with Ryan Reynolds reprising the titular role. Full of humor and unconventional methods, this off-beat superhero is ready for a brand new adventure.
Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran (May 25)
After a span of about 2 years, John Abraham is back with one of his most anticipated ventures – Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran. The film showcases the story of India’s successful nuclear bomb tests at Pokhran in 1998. A top secret mission till the final hour, the event marked India’s entry into the league of major nuclear states in the world.
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero(May 25)
This Anurag Kashyap production is a quirky take on the concept of superheroes. Focused on the life of a young man named Bhavesh Joshi, the plot reveals how circumstances compel him to become a vigilante. Little do his enemies know that his rage is fueled by the desire to avenge his friend’s murder.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
After the enormous success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this movie is the next in the line for the franchise. The plot is centred on a young Han Solo and his journey with Chewbacca. Their strange encounters and twists along their travels forms the crux of this adventure.
Bucket List (May 25)
Bucket List marks Madhuri Dixit’s debut in Marathi cinema. A Tejas Vijay Deoskar directorial, the film focuses on the different roles played by a woman throughout her life. The film also stars Renuka Shahane and Sumeet Raghvan in critical roles. The film is produced by Karan Johar.
