One of the finest filmmakers in India, Rajkumar Hirani is known for making movies that blend entertainment with inspiration. His films naturally attract the audience and never disappoint the critics. There is the perfect script, story and music that keeps one and all happy.
Whenever a movie is directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the audience enter the theatre expecting something out of the box and never return disappointed. At the same time they know that every film helmed by him is going to leave a lasting impression on them.
His films usually have a protagonist whose way of looking at the world is different from the herd, be it Munna, Rancho or PK. Just like the unique traits and thought process, the names of his character are distinctive too- Phunsuk Wangdoo, Jagat Janani and Ranchoddas Shyamal Das Chanchad!
Another special thing about his movies is that there is always something that you take away from them. It might be something as simple as following your heart or sticking to morals. Let’s take a look at the movies helmed by him:
Munna Bhai MBBS (2003)
Munna Bhai MBBS was Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial debut. When the trailer of the movie came out, it was clear that something big was coming. Nobody knew that it wasn’t just a movie, rather it was a revolution that was all set to change the dynamics of film making in India. The story wasn’t a rocket science, the plot wasn’t off the beat, but the formula was clearly different and clever. It was a satire on the medical profession in our country, laced with just the right amount of humour and emotion. Rajkumar Hirani intelligently helmed a story that was relatable, with characters like Munna, Circuit and Dr. Asthana that etched in our memories forever.
Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006)
Three years later, Hirani returned with the adorable duo of Munna and Circuit. While we were wondering what took him so long to return as a director, the movie spoke for itself. Another masterstroke from Hirani, Lage Raho Munna Bhai introduced young India to Gandhi’s philosophies. The beautiful story was complemented by the quirky characters and amazing music.
3 Idiots (2009)
3 Idiots is one of the most memorable movies ever made in India. The movie featured Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor Khan in pivotal roles. A heart-warming tale of friendship, 3 Idiots takes us back to our college days and brilliantly inspires people to follow their dreams, no matter what. The famous “All Is Well” has become a part of our daily lives. It was Hirani’s brilliance as a director that didn’t let its theme of “self-actualization” get in the way of the entertainment. The film received three National Awards.
Rajkumar Hirani’s biggest blockbuster till date, PK was the story of an innocent alien who accidentally lands in Rajasthan and asks questions that no one has asked before. With PK, Rajkumar Hirani brought a social issue to the forefront and dealt with it in a refreshing manner. The ‘wrong number’ concept bringing to light the subject of superstition in India was highly successful at wooing the audience. Hirani reached a greater level of film making with this one.
With Sanju, Rajkumar Hirani is once again ready to spell his magic on the silver screen. A biopic based on the life of ace actor Sanjay Dutt, Sanju is one of the most awaited movies of the year. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, Sanju chronicles the real story of Sanjay Dutt which has always been very controversial. Ranbir, who is looking like the mirror image of Dutt has enthralled the audience in the official teaser of the film. This, being Rajkumar Hirani’s fifth film comes with expectations five times higher! We can’t wait to see his brilliance on screen.
