Akshay Kumar who gave a spectacular start to 2018 with Pad Man will be seen next coming in Gold. Gold traces the “golden era” of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a youngster who dreams of playing for an independent nation. It shows how it took 12 years to win a gold for India. The film is being produced under Excel Entertainment. The film is being helmed by Reema Kagti. Lets gear up for another inspiring sports biopic releasing on Independence Day 2018.
Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev is undoubtedly the greatest all-rounder the world has ever seen. His heroics in the 1983 cricket world cup are still fresh in our memories. Ranveer Singh is all set to bring his story on screen with 83 & refresh the memories of the biggest cricket victory for India. The biopic is being directed by the Bajrangi Bhaijaan director, Kabir Khan. It will recreate the most memorable moment of the Indian cricket history that gave the country its first world cup trophy when India won against West Indies. We can’t wait for this one for sure.
Saina Nehwal’s Untitled Biopic
Another exciting sports biopic coming this year is the one based on the life of star shuttler, Saina Nehwal. Directed by Amol Gupte, the movie will feature Shraddha Kapoor essaying the lead role. Saina who has won many national and international titles has also won the prestigious bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Portraying one of the biggest badminton players of the country is going to be a big challenge for Shraddha Kapoor.
Mithali Raj’s Untitled Biopic
Viacom18 Motion Pictures recently announced the biopic of the Captain of Indian Women’s Cricket team Mithali Raj. Mithali has been a crucial part in raising the bar for women’s cricket. It was under her captaincy that India went to the finals in the World Cup and she is also the first woman to score 6000 ODI runs in one-day international cricket. It will be interesting to see her real story on screen.
A Biopic on Abhinav Bindra (Untitled)
Another interesting biopic to look forward to is the one based on the life of Abhinav Bindra, the Olympic Gold medal winning shooter. Harshvardhan Kapoor will be playing the lead role and he has already started the preparations also. The film is based on Bindra’s autobiography “A Shot at History: My Obsessive Journey to Olympic Gold” and it will be directed by Kannan Iyer.
