The Baadshah of Bollywood tried his hands at the genre of superhero movies with Ra.One. The story of the movie was based in a world where motion based sensor games rule. This wasn’t a regular superhero-villain story. This was a war between the hero and a supervillain. G.One wasn’t an extraordinary superhero. He had his own limitations, but his will-power and high on emotion quotient wooed the audience. Ra.One remains one of the most expensive Indian projects.
Drona was the story of orphaned, lonely and neglected Aditya, who finds out that he is not an ordinary human being. Although the movie wasn’t a box-office success, but it was loved by the kids. Drona’s story was high on emotion. The movie introduced Drona as a legendary superhero, who was fearless and mighty. He fights out with his indestructible arch-enemy Riz Raizada in this revenge story. Junior Bachchan was a perfect fit to play this character.
Changing the concept of superhero movies, A Flying Jatt introduced India to a one-of-a-kind reluctant superhero who is scared of heights. Funny and fierce in equal measure, this Jatt fights the evil to make the world a happy place. Amazingly portrayed by the young superstar Tiger Shroff, Flying Jatt became immensely popular for his adorable habits and gestures. His ultimate face-off with the supervillain Raka was highly appreciated. He was one superhero, who made us wonder why can’t superheroes exist in real life!
This superhero deserves a special mention as he was the first official superhero of India. Puneet Issar, with his muscular body was India’s very own Clark Kent. The movie was the Indian version of Superman. Despite not being a very big movie, this one holds a special place in Indian cinema because for the first time, Indian audience saw a superhero who spoke in their language.
Harshvardhan Kapoor looks set to come roaring back into form with the upcoming superhero film, Bhavesh Joshi. The film is helmed by the exceptionally talented Vikramaditya Motwane who previously made Udaan. They say that tragedies bring out the extreme in you. So is the case with Bhavesh Joshi, who sets out to avenge his best friend’s death. In the process, he discovers things about himself which he hadn’t thought of in his wildest dreams. Bhavesh Joshi is touted to be an off beat movie where an ordinary man becomes a superhero under extraordinary circumstances. We can’t wait to watch this one!
