What We Know So Far?

Avengers, the Earth’s mightiest heroes came together to fight out their most powerful arch-rival ever, Thanos. Possibly for the first time, a Marvel villain was above par to all the superheroes combined. Thanos was on a lookout for the six infinity stones – time, power, mind, soul, reality and space. On possession of which, he wiped off half of the universe by the snap of his fingers with his Infinity Gauntlet. Several pivotal characters like (wait for it) Black Panther, Spider-Man, Bucky, Scarlet Witch, Nick Fury, Falcon, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Groot, Drax, Mantis and Maria Hill(Yes, it indeed is a long list!) just vanished into thin air. We were left with rest of the Avengers (all the founding members are still alive!) gasping and shocked with what had just happened while Thanos, sits on cliff looking at the sunset. It truly was heart-wrenching and unexpected!

Unanswered Questions from Infinity War

  • Hawkeye and Ant-Man

Suggested from a scene from Avengers: Infinity War, both Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Scott Lang (Ant-Man) were on house arrest during the part one of final showdown. The speculations are still rife for what role may Hawkeye play in the consequent movies. However, Ant-Man will play a major role considering his experimentation with the Quantum Realm.

  • Role of Iron Man

Iron Man is expected to play a major role in the upcoming Avengers finale. Why, you ask? Doctor Strange traded off Iron Man’s life in exchange of the Time Stone with Thanos. It was interesting and intriguing to watch him save Iron Man while he had sworn to protect the infinity stone for the unforeseeable times. From one of the other sequences from the movie, the sorcerer supreme travels further in time to evaluate their chances against Thanos. Well, there was only one way to 14 million others which he saw. While he didn’t specify how to go about that path, but his ultimate sacrifice did direct us to the one who could be instrumental in bringing Thanos down.

What’s next in line from MCU?

  • Ant-Man and the Wasp

The tiniest yet the biggest superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe went missing in action from the epic showdown. Possibly because he was busy bringing us yet another ally of his – The Wasp! Remember Hope Pym from Ant-Man? Yes, Dr. Pym’s daughter! She will be seen joining forces with Ant-Man to fight out the bad guys. Wasp like Ant-Man can shrink down and back to the normal size easily but this one can also fly! The trailer clearly sets out the timeline the movie is set in i.e. after the Civil War so in all possibility we may not get enough fodder for the upcoming Avengers movie. But don’t lose hopes yet! There is a lot more to look forward to like the mystery of Quantum Realm. How did Scott return returned after entering the Realm? Does that mean Janet can also be brought back? The movie is expected to answer all this and more! To top it all, we have another unique villain coming up – Ghost, who essentially has the power to phase out and move through solid matter. These tiny bits and unanswered mysteries will sure make this a compelling watch!

  • Captain Marvel

The post-credit scenes set it quite clear who is going to be the next big thing. Over the course of the journey, MCU has time and again hinted the arrival of this super powerful hero. Captain Marvel is supremely strong, can fly, both absorbs and projects energy, and even has limited precognitive abilities. She is a pilot who acquired these superpowers after she met with an accident. Seeing that Nick Fury paged Captain Marvel while he was getting dusted away clears out the gravity and her importance with regards to the situation at hand. Her introduction into the MCU and a few leaked out pictures from the sets of Avengers 4 hints at a possible time travel in the upcoming movie. Since Captain Marvel is supposed to be an origin story (set in 1990s) and later she’d be seen in Avengers 4 (yet to be named) clears out any airs there were regarding the release sequences of the two movies.

  • Re-Introduction of the Old Heroes

While MCU did steal away Nick Fury and Agent Phil Coulson mercilessly from us, there is always a silver lining to the situation. In this case, it is Captain Marvel! After years of waiting and gruesome death at the hands of Loki in The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson is expected to return in Captain Marvel. Not just him, our beloved one-eyed S.H.I.E.L.D. founder Nick Fury will be seen reprising his role. So, what were these two highly experienced agents doing in 1990s? It should be worth a watch! As a cherry over the cake, we will also see the Academy Award nominee, Jude Law playing a pivotal role alongside the Academy Award winner, Brie Larson.

  • Return of Superheroes

Considering that the next movies have already been announced for Black Panther, Spider-Man and The Guardians of the Galaxy, it is unlikely that they’d remain dead for a long time. It also is a possibility that the sequels might be set in a different time period. Regardless, it’d be interesting to watch how things pan out for these superheroes in particular. While these are confirmed sequels in making, the buzz is that there might be a movie on Black Widow and Doctor Strange 2. Well, we think the more, the merrier!

First introduced in the Fantastic Four, these deadly shapeshifters are expected to make a comeback in the origin story of Captain Marvel. In terms of strengths and evolution, they are said to be at par with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. In addition to them, quite a few villains seen earlier in the MCU are expected to make a comeback like Korath the Pursuer and Ronan The Accuser. With these sinister bunch returning back to the field, the stakes are pretty high!

The next installment in the Avengers series and Captain Marvel will release next year in 2019. With multiple timelines running for various characters, we are sure to witness incredible action and unexpected revelations. Hold on tight till then, much bigger things are coming up!
