Rajinikanth- starrer Kaala is one of the most awaited films this year. It tells the story of a runaway child Kaala aka Karikaalan who grows up to be a powerful don living in the slums of Dharavi.
Written and directed by Pa. Ranjith, Kaala has whipped up curiosity among the audience because of many reasons. Right from the stellar cast to the intriguing twists in the plot, the film offers more than everything that you would expect. Let’s take a closer look at why you shouldn’t miss this epic crime-action entertainer.
1. Clash of the Legends: Rajinikanth Vs. Nana Patekar
The Kaala trailer opens with Nana Patekar’s deep baritone echoing impressively. Soon after, the Thalaiva of Tamil cinema- Rajinikanth makes his intense and exciting entry. Evidently, the two legendary actors will lock horns on the big screen, much to the delight of the fans. Nana Patekar will appear as Hari Dada, the prime antagonist in the film.
2. The Curious Collection of Vehicles
The movie features some very interesting vehicles like a modified Mahindra Thar and a Yamaha RX100 in a green paint scheme! Moreover, the retro two-stroke motorcycle also has a new off-road front mudguard, an expansion chamber and a new instrument cluster. It has been tweaked for higher performance. The purpose of using these vehicles is to evoke nostalgia through the movie. Interestingly, Anand Mahindra, Executive Chairman of Mahindra group, plans to include the jeep from Kaala in his auto museum as a collector’s item.
3. Unusually Powerful Music
Composed by Santhosh Narayanan, the songs of Kaala are an unusual blend of multiple genres and political messages. The diverse range of music includes rap numbers, folk melodies, empowering odes to the protagonist, minimal use of background instruments and even hip-hop beats. Besides, there are lyrics that talk about peaceful protests, land rights and crony capitalism.
4. Rajinikanth Returns as the Messiah of the Masses
The veteran actor lives up to his name in the film by appearing mostly in black attire. But more interesting is the fact that once again, he resumes the iconic image of the “mass messiah”, standing up for the right, protecting the weak and beating the bad guys by the dozen!
5. The Film has its Own Emoji!
On May 28, micro-blogging website Twitter launched a special emoji for Kaala. Aimed to add color to the online conversations around the film, the emoji is inspired by Rajinikanth himself, featuring a silhouette of his face inside a black circle. The emoji appears next to the hashtag in the Tweet and will be active till June 10. It is available in four languages- Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English.
